The Flipped Classroom - Instructional Module
  • Active vs. passive learning - By moving lectures out of the classroom, students are able to become active particpants in the learning process through learning activities delivered during the class period.
  • Self-paced instruction - Because lectures are available online 24/7, students are able to learn at the pace that best suits them. They can stop and rewind explanations of concepts they find difficult and refer back to past lectures to review older content.
  • Multiple learning styles - Different students learn in different ways, so by delivering instruction in multiple forms, the likelihood for engagement and retention is improved.
  • Varied instruction - By offering instruction in multiple forms, students are more likely to remain motivated throughout the learning process.
  • Social interaction - With added class time for collaborative activities, social interation is promoted amongst the students and the student and teacher.
  • 21st century preparation - Using technology for educational purposes at an early age develops technical skills and provides students with a working knowledge of 21st century tools and resources.

How To Make Your Own Books From Wikipedia

The article is three years old, but I logged into Wikipedia and confirmed that the "Create a Book" option is located in the Print/Export menu. Given the efforts that Wikipedia is putting into making their content more reliable, this may be a way for teachers to create a "jumping off" point for a new topic - circumventing students' inclination to rely on it as their main reference.

Socrative | Student Response System
I saw this before my most recent workshop, but I didn't really understand how well it worked. If can be used for pre-designed and graded quizzes. It could be used for spur of the moment review or just getting ideas from the class and then voting on the most popular choice. Quizzes can be done with names or anonymously. 1 thing I really loved. The teacher does NOT have to pre-register students. The students just enter your room number (which has to be unique), and they enter their own names at the beginning of each class... and voila. Super easy!

TubeChop - Chop YouTube Videos

So there is a perfect video....  except that one part.  Just chop that section out of there!  Only for use with YouTube videos, unfortunately, but it's quick and it provides a url or the option to embed the video.

I have not been able to embed into a google site, but I can embed the video into my blog.

Unfortunately, i cannot figure out how to go to full screen mode to show the video, although I believe there is a way to do it.

Looking to flip your classroom?

Maybe you just want to find some short videos that will get the ideas across to your students.

One of the websites on this list may have what you're looking for...

"Video tutorials are great way to stimulate students cognitive capabilities and elicit more engagement from their part. But not all the teachers have the necessary skills or time to go about creating tutorials for their students and this is why we should always make sure we have a bunch of ready-made tutorials at our disposal for rainy days."

An Article about Group Assignments

The important word in the answer is MORE. Marking schemes must respect individual work in balance with groups. Our industry needs great team workers but we must take into account poor English and individual ability too.
